Service Rates
Activation Fee
All new accounts are charged a $30 activation fee to start the account. The fee will appear on the first utility bill. Start utility service.Deposit
Deposit Amount
A deposit is required to start utility service for all rental and commercial accounts.- Residential Property Deposit: $80 per unit.
- Commercial Account Deposit: Varies by the nature of the business and the projected water use. The deposit amount is the usual cost of 90 days of service for a similar business type in the city.
Start Date & Deposit
The Utility Billing Department must receive the deposit before the start date of the account to ensure service is available on the requested day.End of Service & Deposit
The deposit stays with the utility account until the service is terminated. When that occurs, the deposit is applied towards the final bill. Any remainder is refunded to the account holder. The deposit is non-transferable to another location or person. Stop utility service Utility Rates

The water rates listed above went into effect on July 1, 2022. A rate increase was implemented and it will allow the City to finance significant planned water system and capacity improvements. The rate changes were approved by the City Council following a review and public hearing for the budget for the fiscal year that began on July 1, 2022.

The trash fee on your utility bill has two parts: a trash fee plus a container fee.
*The solid waste rate listed above went into effect on July 1, 2022. An rate increase was implemented and it will allow the City to fund increased operating costs and compensate for lower values for recyclable materials. The rate changes were approved by the City Council following a review and public hearing for the budget for the fiscal year that begins on July 1, 2022.
Garbage Stickers for Extra Trash
Residents may purchase a $3 single use garbage sticker for any additional bag of trash (up to 33 gallons, 40 pounds weight limit) that does not fit in the regular trash container. The bag stickers can be purchased at Coralville City Hall and Coralville Hy-Vee.

Temporary Service Suspension Rates
An account holder may temporarily stop water, sewer, and trash collection for a maximum of 6 months for every 12-month period. Monthly stormwater fees still apply.To temporarily suspend your services, please call the Utility Billing office at 319.248.1715.

Suspend Trash Only
It is not possible to suspend trash services only. In order to temporarily discontinue trash service, water and sewer service must be discontinued at the same time for the same time period.
