Coralville Kicks Off Yearlong Sesquicentennial Celebration

The City of Coralville is kicking off a year-long celebration of its 150th year with a variety of events.

On October 3, 1873, Coralville officially became incorporated as a town in Johnson County, Iowa, with a population of about 300 and has now grown to over 22,000. Coralville Mayor Meghann Foster will proclaim a yearlong celebration of the City of Coralville’s sesquicentennial at the October 11 City Council meeting. From now through October 2023, Coralville will mark the sesquicentennial to honor our past, celebrate the present, and look toward the future.

The City has unveiled a commemorative logo for the sesquicentennial and a web page dedicated to events and information, www.coralville.org/coralville150. City Councilor Laurie Goodrich and Stacey Houseman of the Iowa City/Coralville Area Convention and Visitors Bureau are co-chairing the Coralville 150 Executive Committee.

To volunteer to assist with events, or share a story or photo, email coralville150@coralville.org or visit www.coralville.org/coralville150.

Coralville Cemetery Walk and Stories
The Coralville Cemetery Walk and Stories on Sunday, October 30, will be one of the first events of the celebration. Coralville historian Rex Brandstatter and City Councilor Keith Jones will lead a historic tour of personalities who are buried in Coralville’s Oak Hill Cemetery.

Walks will begin at 3:00 pm, 4:00 pm, and 5:00 pm, and each will last one hour. The walks will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery, 1290 1st Avenue in Coralville. This event is free and open to the public.

No reservations are needed; dress for the weather and wear comfortable walking shoes. If you would like to tour but are not able to walk the route, golf carts will be available. For more information, visit www.coralville.org/coralville150.
