Individuals and community organizations are invited to set up a display in S.T. Morrison Park on Sunday evening, December 11, to celebrate our cultures and traditions

As part of Coralville’s annual Aisle of Lights events, Coralville is hosting displays in S.T. Morrison Park on the evening of Sunday, December 11, 2022.  This special event involves area non-profits, the local worship community, and other community organizations sharing their cultures and traditions as people stroll through a candlelit park.

Whether you celebrate Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Christmas, or the snowy season, we are inviting area churches, organizations, and businesses to put together a display in S.T. Morrison Park on Sunday, December 11. This event, called One Coralville, Bright Future, honors the many ways our community celebrates the season of lights, or helps others during this season.  Displays can contain music, carolers, displays, candles, educational posters, or be a social gathering with a food to try or a hot drink to enjoy.

Display Details
The displays will be along the path from Fireside Shelter to Hilltop Shelter. Decorate a space with battery-powered lights, candles, and/or decorations meaningful to your culture, organization, or family. Displays can be stand-alone or “staffed” for people-to-people interaction. Displays should follow these guidelines:

  • Set up displays on Sunday, December 11 to be ready by 4:00 pm.
  • Displays must be up until 8:00 pm on December 11.
  • Extinguish burning candles at end of event, and tear down displays by Monday, December 12 at 4:00 pm.
  • There is no fee to participate. Businesses/organizations may offer goodies and should be marked for food allergens.
  • Displays must be family-friendly. Coralville Parks and Recreation staff reserve the right to close a display if deemed offensive.
  • Live music or recorded music is welcome. Please indicate if you are having music so we can space the displays accordingly. Amplified music must be low enough to hear just in the area of the display.
  • There are no electrical outlets available. Battery power only, or whisper-quiet generators are welcome.

How to Register
Register your display by December 4 by calling the Coralville Recreation Center at 319.248.1750, or visit www.coralville.org/AisleofLights to register online (look for "Cultural Displays: One Coralville, Bright Future" in the events listing).

About Aisle of Lights
Coralville's annual Aisle of Lights celebration is held on the second Sunday evening in December. Residents and businesses are invited to set out luminarias on their sidewalks and turn on their holiday lights. People gather at various community locations in fellowship and celebration of the season of lights. Additional activities will be held in the park, including luminaria decorating, hot chocolate and cookies, a fire, and giant light-up letters to celebrate Coralville's 150th anniversary. Held snow or shine; dress for the weather.

Aisle of Lights is sponsored in part by GreenState Credit Union; luminaria sand is donated by Hawkeye Ready Mix. Learn more about Aisle of Lights at www.coralville.org/AisleofLights.  Learn more about Coralville's 150th anniversary at www.coralville.org/Coralville150.
