Director of Parks and Recreation, Sherri Proud, was recently recognized by the University of Iowa Sport and Recreation Management program with the Dr. Michael Teague All-Star Award.  The Dr. Michael Teague All-Star Award was established in 2018 to honor exceptional alumni, faculty, and friends of the Sport and Recreation Management program for significant contributions to the program or achievements in the industry.  When Dr. Teague retired, UI Sport and Rec Management established this award to honor his legacy as the original architect of the modern SRM program.

Proud commented about the award, “Every class meeting was an opportunity to hear Mike’s wisdom on topics that had become so relevant to me as a young professional in community recreation.  I credit Mike with helping me see my potential to strive for an administration position and how I could combine skills learned at the University of Iowa with my upbringing that included involvement in sports and outdoor recreational activities to attain such a position. I really appreciate being honored with this award and its representation in continuing to recognize Mike Teague's legacy of mentoring students and professionals.

Sherri Curtis Proud received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Iowa.  She has served as the Director of Parks and Recreation for eighteen years for the City of Coralville where she previously held the positions of Recreation Superintendent (2000-2005), Partnership Supervisor (1997-2000), and Aquatics Supervisor (1992-1995).  Her career path also took her to positions with the Burlington YMCA/YWCA and Oaknoll Retirement Residence.

Since becoming Director in 2005, Proud has overseen over $31 million in new park and recreation projects for the City of Coralville, increased the amount of park land by 30%, increased staffing by 55%, and has overseen the increase by more than double of park and recreation programs. Proud, her husband Jon, and family live in Coralville and can often be found using these same recreational amenities.
